Taylor Wimpey North Thames requested the design, build and installation of the marketing suite within an 8-week construction programme. JOHN’S HILL, WANDSWORTH, LONDON The St John’s Way, Wandsworth development is located in a regeneration of a 1930s existing Peabody estate directly adjacent to Europe’s busiest train station, Clapham Junction, and consists of 528 new homes. Our client Navigation Property Marketing Suites Services was directly approached on the back of several successful completed projects for Peabody and in turn we were employed by them to design a marketing suite to be located within the development site. Due to its proximity with Clapham Junction the new building required a strong presence due to an extremely high volume of potential footfall which we feel was achieved with the angled contemporary style. Our brief was for a new-build temporary structure and due to its elevated position within the site the decision was taken to increase its presence by raising it to two floors in order to take full advantage of the site constraints and in doing so we were able to create a sophisticated and visually stunning building. Our design offered a sophisticated exterior using a combination of ACM cladding and full height glazing which allowed our client to install retail screens to be controlled remotely by the agency, the first of their kind in the UK. Expanding upon the brief of innovative building technology we decided to use timber frame construction methods throughout for both ease of construction and its sustainability aspects. CLIENT: PRIVATE LOCATION: CLACTON-ON-SEA, ESSEX SIZE: 250SQM Clacton-on-Sea is located within the district of Tendring, and is the largest town in the Tendring peninsula. The seaside provides a strong day trip contingent, which provides a considerable support to the local economy. Our clients run the local restaurant which is situated in a prominent location within the town – the lower promenade next to the pier. Our brief was to undertake a scheme of refurbishment and improvement to the existing structure which was substantially built in the 1950s. GROW designed a simple programme of upgrades to the building, including the provision of a new raised terrace and lift to the first floor which could be converted into a conference centre. Glass balustrades would replace existing with stainless steel handrails, while timber cladding is added internally, and a full redecoration is to be undertaken. We understand the scheme is under consideration.
CLIENT: Tendring District Council COMPLETED: 2015 LOCATION: Clacton on sea, Walton on the Naze, Essex SIZE: 12sqm The Changing Places Consortium provide changing facilities and toilets for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. This includes people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, as well as older people. To use the toilet in safety and comfort, many people need to be able to access a Changing Places, which have more space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist. We were approached by Tendring District Council to design two new Changing Places, one in Clacton on sea, and one in Walton on the Naze as part of a forward thinking initiative by the LA and local councillors. CLIENT: Nicholas Anthony COMPLETED: 2016 LOCATION: 121 Chesterton Road, Cambridge SIZE: 408sqm Nicholas Anthony are a 50 year old family run business, providing luxury kitchens, bathrooms and interiors via their showrooms in Ascot, Cambridge, Colchester, Knightsbridge and Mayfair. The company had recently taken control of a new property in Cambridge, and required GROW to undertake the transition, adaptation and fit-out of the property, to their exactly standards. GROW were appointed to carry concept designs, involving liaising with all parties involved with the project and formulating a design around the stakeholders requirements. We formulated a planning strategy around the mechanical and electrical contractor, signage company, structural engineer and Building Control Authority, and the planning application was submitted and approved. The new homes will be manufactured off-site by Swan’s property development company, NU living, and will utilise CLT timber panel technology within their construction. Our brief was to obtain planning permission for a new-build, temporary structure which will serve as the Property Marketing Suite for the development. Our aim was to incorporate the landscape and environmental improvements of the development into the design, to provide a stylish and bespoke structure. Manufactured using composite steel and timber frame, the building was designed in conjunction with a local contractor and their engineer in order to deliver a product which was as efficient as possible, whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing. The brief from our client was to design a marketing suite with a dedicated sales area to the ground floor with a first-floor area capable of housing two show apartment layouts relevant to the current and future construction phases of the main development. The floor had to have an adaptable space so that the show apartments can be updated as the construction phase is completed.
