Beechwood Village will provide 587 new factory built homes to dramatically renovate the former Craylands Estate in Basildon, Essex, for Swan Housing. The new homes will be manufactured off-site by Swan’s property development company, NU living, and will utilise CLT timber panel technology within their construction.
Our brief was to obtain planning permission for a new-build, temporary structure which will serve as the Property Marketing Suite for the development. Our aim was to incorporate the landscape and environmental improvements of the development into the design, to provide a stylish and bespoke structure.
Manufactured using composite steel and timber frame, the building was designed in conjunction with a local contractor and their engineer in order to deliver a product which was as efficient as possible, whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing. The wall and roof panels were pre-constructed, cutting cost and installation times and the building was designed with a continuous glazed element running vertically and joining a roof lantern, which maximised the green views across the development and provided a vast amount of light directly into the structure. A thorough structural strategy was required to avoid excessive deflection within the structure, and consequential failures in the glazing.
The building was completed towards the 2017, to support the construction work stage, GROW were also appointed to carry out site supervision of the build. At the point its use concludes, Beechwood Village will be disassembled, with the remainder of the residential development constructed in its place.
